LED array makers are constantly striving to achieve greater luminosity, simplified field installation and reliable thermal, optical and electrical performance.Choices of COB array attachments include cumbersome hand soldering or the more reliable LED holder method in three main styles:releasable wire-trap types that require an extraction tool; pre-wired types; or two-piece connector assembly types.When wire removal is required, extraction-tool styles meet the need but add cost, process time and inventory requirements for the tool.To meet this need, Molex incorporated a lever-actuated wire-trap contact design from its Lite-Trap™ product family into an LED array holder for Samsung’s 13.50 and 19.00 mm LES (light emitting surface) diameter COB arrays.
